Google docs spreadsheets

Since the amazing people at Google came out with Google docs I have been a big fan of their product. This is not just because it is free like the many resources that Google bestows upon us at no cost. It is because I have seen the usefulness of having a spreadsheet available anywhere that you have Internet access.

When I started using a personal computer to do accounting work it was common to bring along floppy disks and had both your programs and some for data. If I was fortunate enough to go to a client that had a personal computer I would use my floppy disks to load my programs. Those where the days when the best spreadsheet program out there was Lotus 1-2-3 Since then we have seen Microsoft trounce the competition in more than one instance, a spreadsheet Excel did just that to Lotus 1-2-3.

Being able to travel to bring along my computing power was just the ticket to getting jobs done quickly and efficiently. So when I saw that Google had come out with a product that would allow me to not only have spreadsheet software anywhere I wanted but would also make my data portable I saw the potential benefits.

Initially Google docs had more potential than actual benefits. This is due to the fact that it was missing many essential elements that we take for granted in Microsoft Excel. Now I believe that even if you use Excel on a regular basis it pays to take a look at Google docs spreadsheets.

If you're wondering why please continue to Google Docs spreadsheets for Excel users.
